Mother Nature
Stamps depicting Mother Nature, whether plants or animals, can be fascinating. Although people do use some wild plants and animals, this section will separate them into 'wild' or 'domestic' categories.
Animals
This part deals with stamps showing wild animals, including mammals, birds, fish and other aquatic animals. I will include insects here too, for instance butterflies and beetles. And other critters such as spiders. Maybe I should call that part "the crawlies".Animals come in so many sizes and varieties, it's hard to know where to start. Much of the following deals with Canadian animals, but some others are included. I have divided them into But, for domesticated animals, look in
Domestic Animals on Stamps,
which is under Agriculture.
Plants
Under wild plants, I have included flowers, trees, leaves, and berries. Any tree grown in orchards, domestic flowers, grain or fruit and vegetable will be in
Agriculture
, in several sections. The natural world has such a variety of life forms, they are (almost) too numerous to count. Plants cover the land (OK, not mountains and deserts), and algae float in the oceans. Even the lowly mould is important as a source of medicine. You guessed it, there is a stamp about that.
Scenery
This section will include natural scenery on stamps. No people, buildings, bridges, dams, canals, or cityscapes here, just Mother Nature, mostly at a distance. We have mountains, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, glaciers, prairies, harbours, shorelines, coral reefs and parks.
List of types of scenery:
Land Formations Scenery with Water Although every nation has issued scenery stamps, I have tried to keep the count down. Some places are spectacular and popular, and show up more than once, but stamps can't do justice to their beauty.
