Stamps - Those Little Pieces of Art - Tell
Stories
I find that stamps are more than just little bits of paper that
the government demands I attach to a letter. They have stories
to tell, and I’d like to relate a few.
While most of my descriptions are about their content,
others are about mistakes. I am by no means an expert, but let
me share some tales with you.
I tend to look for topical postage, those that cover an
event, person, place or thing. Certain themes I find more
interesting than others. Can't say that I spend much effort on
sports, but show me a bird or animal, and I'm hooked. Just hold
off on the spiders though.
When I referred to "Those little pieces of art", I wanted to
draw your attention to the appearance of them. Stamps are tiny
canvasses, and have interesting stories to tell; some are
printed from engraved plates, and some are full colour photos
or montages.
There are hidden dates on some, and micro-printing on
others. Even the common ones used every day might have some
secret. There are some that have odd shapes, embossing or even
holograms.
I also find the selvedge art to be fun, so I have included
some of my notes about that. And have you heard of traffic
lights? I cover them too.
I use the Scott Stamp Catalog numbering system on this site.
I hope you find the site helpful. Enjoy looking around.

Natural scenery of mountains, beaches, lakes &
rivers too.

The science and practice of agriculture is shown on

sub-divided into domestic plants and domestic
animals.

Holidays
The best known of all holidays in the Western World is
Christmas, but we also have special dates to celebrate
the founding of our various countries, and others to
honour significant people.

Selvedge Art on Canadian
Stamps
Selvedge is the margin area of paper around a stamp or
a sheet of stamps, usually torn off by the user. But I
have found this to be a fascinating part of my
collection.
