Agriculture

The science and practice of agriculture is shown on stamps from many countries. This large segment can be sub-divided into domestic plants and domestic animals.

Among the plants depicted on stamps would be all the crops grown for food for man or beast, and those grown for fibers, such as cotton. Flowers, herbs and spices fall into this category. Go to the various pages to see each group:

There are some crops not shown on stamps, such as coca, marijuana and opium poppy.

Domestic animals, including Farm animals, are found on stamps from large numbers of countries. They include those used as food such as cattle, sheep and pigs, and draught animals such as horses, and even dogs.

Horses are used both for pulling wagons and for racing. I suppose dogs can be considered in the same way on a smaller scale.

On a larger scale, think elephants, but no racing here. Pulling and lifting, or performing, yes, but not exactly light on their feet.

Pets form a large part of our lives, and several countries show some of them. Look for dogs and cats, natch, but also birds, fish and lizards.
